Comalapa Market (Tue. Fri. & Sun.)

Depart in the morning to the town of Comalapa (1 hr.) known for its traditional paintings. We will see the mural painted by the children celebrating peace.  Visit some of the local painters who continue the native style. We then continue to the Indian open market to observe natives in their colorful traditional attires sell and buy produce and other goods. Late afternoon return to Antigua. (L)

Solola Market (Tue. & Fri)

In the morning you will be transferred to the traditional town of Solola to observe the Maya people from all surrounding towns arriving for the market to buy and sell their wards for the week ahead. Everyone is dressed in the brightly colored local textiles. This is a fabulous and authentic market that gives travelers an insight into the Maya life style.

Copan (Honduras)

You will be picked up from your hotel travel to Copan, Honduras. Accommodations at the Hacienda San Lucas. We then tour the site of Copan another important Maya city that consists of a large court yard where we find two beautifully carved stelae, several pyramids, a ball court, and other sections that we will explore. The second day you will be transferred to the archaeological site of Quirigua, an unrestores small Maya city that houses the largest stelae ever discovered and notable monuments. Continue to Guatemala City.

Xunantunich (Belize)

Today we depart for the Cayo District into Belize. We travel through thick forest to arrive tothe famous sites of Xunantunich – situated on the banks of the Mopan River. Xunantunich means "stone woman" in Mayan. Xunantunich was a thriving city near the end of the Classic Period (300-900 A.D.) with large plazas ringed with pyramids. The tallest is the 130 foot "El Castillo," which is large by Mayan standards and is only exceeded in Belize by the Caana pyramid at Caracol. The center of the site is composed of six major plazas surrounded by more than 25 temples and palaces. The large pyramid, El Castillo, is well known for the frieze or band of stucco decoration which at one time extended around the entire temple. Accommodation at one of the Chaa Creek Lodge. The next day you are transferred to Belize city or you can continue with one of the Belize Journeys.
